A letter to Fsted.com
"It's good too be home!", I thought, as the American Airlines ATR47 hit the runway. A long four months has past since the last time my feet had strolled across paradise.

As a part time resident of the beautiful island of St. Croix I always look forward to the changes and new growth that happens between my short lived visits. Also, being a resident of downtown Frederiksted shows me new and old with each visit. Neighbors and visitors alike, we've become a part of the grain of this historic town.

There's always work to do, things get dusty, a few disposed articles that need picking up. A loose board on the house, a gutter filled with leaves, some broken glass that needs sweeping, remnants of life passing by an otherwise silent corner.

Each visit I take the time to walk around my neighborhood shaking hands, welcoming hugs, and hearing stories of the time between visits from the old and the young. It's delightful and warm. You always find out more from the people.

Something surfaced this visit a bit disturbing and as this problem revealed itself I knew I must report in to FSTED.com with a plea for help from the neighborhood, for the neighborhood.

St. Croix farm featured as Islands Magazine "Best of the Caribbean 2008"
"We traveled from Trinidad to Bermuda for these 25 highlights"

Islands November 2008 issue featured Frederiksted's Virgin Islands Sustainable Farm Institute as one of 25 "Best of the Caribbean 2008".

The ruby-red tea tastes like hibiscus and sunlight. The genuine calm in the open-air central building creates a sense of inclusion and well-being. And Ben Jones, VISFI's affable founder and director, smiles as if nothing bad ever happens here. He may be right. This year for the first time, the farm in St. Croix's pocket-size rainforest welcomes overnight guests. The farm-stay program offers accommodations in stilted cabanas and in the stately Hawk's Nest with its panoramic view. Guests don't have to toil in the fields, but most will at least want to learn the practices by which such peace can be sustained. --Matthew Miller
